Hillside Volunteer Application

Scare Actor - No experience necessary

Can you completely inhabit your character? Become something else for the masses to witness. Our actors deliver precise, well-timed scares & actions to guide guest flow and sustain pacing and suspense. Ad-libbing to create a fun & unique engagement with guests is a huge plus! Must be able to take direction & adapt as needed. Certain scare roles require no speaking, and rely solely on timing & movement.

Makeup Artist - Experience preferred, but not necessary

Enjoy your own horror playground as you employ a variety of techniques including airbrushing, hand-painting, and intricate prosthetic work to bring characters to life. Portfolio photos and/or auditions are required in order to become a makeup artists at Hillside. Professional airbrush classes will be held September 11th through the 14th.

Event Staff - No experience necessary

Love to work "behind-the-scenes"? Play a hands-on role in event setup, operations, and closing duties each night, making sure every area is clean, organized, and ready for action. Experience preferred, but not necessary.

Technician / Repair - Experience required, please include it on application.

If you love fixing stuff, building stuff, or just being around this stuff then we want you! Must provide prior experience with this field and have your own tools.

Requirements

Must be at least 16 to volunteer as a scare actor.

Parent permission required for anyone under 18.

• Availability: Must be available to work evenings and weekends, as these are our peak event times. Reliable and consistent attendance is essential.

• Physical Stamina: Must be capable of standing, walking, running, and moving rapidly for extended periods in a physically demanding environment.

• Adaptable: Comfortable operating in dark, confined, and low-visibility spaces, with exposure to special effects such as strobe lights, fog, and loud noises.

• Team Player: Must show good collaboration skills and work effectively with a diverse team of actors, technical staff, and supervisors.

• Performance: Must be able to read guest reactions and adjust performance style and intensity to maximize engagement and scare impact.

• Have fun! Maintains a positive attitude, demonstrates reliability, and shows respect for all team members and guests at all times.

All positions are subject to a background check.

• Salaried positions are 1099 contract labor.

• If a salaried position is open, you must be available every day of our season to qualify. Some exclusions apply, include absence details on your application if necessary.

• All volunteers can earn a weekly cash bonus if attending each day of the new scare week.
